Plug-in Modules

X-10 Plug-in modules allow most appliances and lamps to be put under X-10 control. These can be used in power and energy saving application or just for general convenience.

Micro Modules

Micro modules can be placed behind existing switches, meaning you have a large choice of faceplates.

Sensors

X-10 Sensors can be used to detect events like movement, water and gas.

Remote Controls

Remote controls allow you freedom to turn appliances and lights on and off from the comfort of your chair. They can be used to either directly control an X-10 module, or be used to trigger a macro on a controller, for example, the CM15Pro.

Controllers and Software

At the heart of every automation system is a controller. This can either be a stand alone device, or software running on a PC.

What is X-10

X-10 is a home automation control standard. It uses standard mains electrical wiring to transmit control signals between devices. These devices could be Plug-In modules, where you literally plug your appliance into the module and the module into a standard 13A socket or micro-modules that can be wired in behind sockets and switches.

You can turn the devices on or off using either an X-10 remote control, or some form of controller. The controller allows you to set-up schedules very simply using a PC, so, for example, you could have the TV and hi-fi turn off after you go to bed at night and turn on again before you get up in the morning. This would save them being on standby all night (thus saving you money) but would make no difference to the convenience of you be able to use your remote control during the day.

X-10 FAQ X-10 FAQ
What's the minimum I need?
You could use a 4022UK transceiver and a 4059 remote, this will let you control one device manually but still have the option to use X-10 commands in the future.
And the next step?
Buy some 2027UK Appliance modules but still use the remote control.
What if I want computer control?
Also get a CM15Pro, it can be programmed and setup via a PC using Windows, then the PC can be turned off, thus saving you money.
